In My Distress I Called To The Lord

In My Distress I Called To The Lord

Scripture Text : In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. Jonah 2:2

In life when we face hopeless situations we frantically try various means to get immediate help. We begin to imagine an unfavorable outcome and get even more distressed.

In the Bible we come across various examples where people cried out to the Lord for help during their distress and God answered them specifically.

  • Jonah cried out and God answered him

Jonah sank into the ocean and was swallowed by a fish. Jonah prayed from the belly of the fish.

In the midst of distress Jonah called to the Lord and God answered him. The fish vomited Jonah onto dry ground. He was saved from death and given life.

  • Jehoshaphat cried out and God delivered him

King Ahab of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah led their armies against Ramoth-gilead.

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “As we go into battle, I will disguise myself so no one will recognize me, but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself, and they went into battle.

Meanwhile, the king of Aram ordered: “Attack only the king of Israel! So when the Aramean chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat in his royal robes, they went after him. “There is the king of Israel!” they shouted.

Jehoshaphat cried out, and the Lord helped him; and God moved them to depart from him (II Chronicles 18:31).

God helped him by turning the attackers away from him. As soon as the chariot commanders realized he was not the king of Israel, they stopped chasing him.

Psalms 50 :15 says, Call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.
