Do Not Worry Be Happy
Scripture text Psalm 37:1-4. Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
- Do not fret or be envious of those who do wrong
Fret means to be constantly anxious, be distressed, be upset, feel unhappy etc.
Jesus says in Matthew 6:25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
Since God understands our situation, we should not worry about the evil or the evil doers around us. Do not fret about your family, your job or your health.
We look around at other people and they are wicked, selfish, disobedient to God and we become envious because they are successful and prosperous. They get the best jobs, they drive expensive cars, and they live in nicer homes and are living the dream life! And this begins to upset and bother us and makes us little envious.
Verse 2 says, for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.
The evil doers may seem to be prosperous, but they’re more like grass that’s easily mowed down.
"Look around and you'll be distressed. Look within, and you'll be depressed. Look to the Lord, and you’ll be at rest." Corrie Ten Boom
What God has in store for us is different than what He has in store for the non-believer!
- Trust in the Lord
God provides for His people and trusting Him in every situation is the key to successful Christian life.
It is easier to worry and blame God than to trust God. It’s hard to trust at times but we need to learn to trust God at all times. In the same Psalm verse 25 David says "I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread."
God will take care of His children from the cradle to the grave.
Put your trust in His grace, His power and His unfailing love.
- Take delight in the Lord
The scripture says in verse 4,that we should delight in the Lord and He will fulfill the desires of our heart.
Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things [the necessities of life] will be given to you as well.”
Many delight in wealth, status and other temporary things of this world, but they are never satisfied.
If we place our joy and hope in God first, He will meet all of our needs. This world can never satisfy our deepest longings, but if we choose to delight in God’s way, He will always provide above and beyond our expectations.
Satan desires that we look horizontally (at others), not vertically (at Christ) when going through problems. When we look horizontally we begin to fret and become jealous .We begin to grumble and question God. Put your trust in the Lord in good times and bad times and take delight in Him.
Lord, Help me to not worry about the evil around me but instead focus on You. I want to trust in your promise to take care of every one of my needs — financial, physical, spiritual, and emotional. Help me to trust You more and take delight in You.
