Draw Near To God And He will Draw Near To You
Scripture Text “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, double-minded people! James 4 :8
James says here in this scripture, when we draw near to God He will draw near to us.
Drawing near to God is spending time with Him, seeking His presence, guidance and directions in all aspects of our lives. Our one and only focus should be our Lord and Savior. The more we walk closer to God, the less we are worried by the charms and distractions of this world. Also the above verse states that we must cleanse our hands and purify our hearts.
The sheep is safe when it is close to the shepherd. The prodigal son’s life became miserable when he chose to go far away from his father’s care and began to live alone. He lost all the good things he enjoyed in his father’s house. When he came again to his father he enjoyed sitting at his father’s table and feasting on the good things provided by his father.
Adam and Eve had the privilege to walk and talk with God in the garden of Eden. Sadly, they were deceived by Satan and they chose to sin against God and lost the warm presence and fellowship with God .
We read in the scriptures that Enoch walked with God.
Jeremiah. 29:13 says, ”And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
When we take initiative to draw near to Him, He promises – He will draw near to us.
David explains to his son Solomon
“And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.1 chronicle 28 :9
Do you love your spouse, children and parents more than our savior? Do you have an intimate relationship with our Lord?
Our work schedules and relationships occupy our hearts more and make us increasingly distant from the Lord. Have a quiet time with the Lord. Revive your relationship with God and draw closer to Him.
The more I have drawn near to God, the more I have experienced His love, faithfulness, mercy, favor and blessings in my life. I encourage you to draw near to God and experience Him drawing near to you.
Happy Weekend Friends!
