From Marah To Elim

From Marah To Elim

Scripture Text: When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. Exodus 15:23

The Israelites crossed the Red sea and they walked for three days into the desert of Shur. They did not have water for three days. When they came to Marah they found water but could not drink the water because it was bitter.

So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?” V:24

Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink. V:25

In the same scripture it says, there God “tested” them.

Marah is a place on the way to Elim. It is a place of trial.

At Marah the people grumbled or complained. Complaining about a problem cannot bring a solution to the problem.

Moses also faced the same trial but instead of complaining he cried out to the Lord. Moses knew the only solution to overcome this bitter experience is to cry out to God.

A miracle happened. God showed him a piece of wood and as he cast it into the water the bitter water turned into sweet water.

The Israelites travelled further and they came to a place called Elim.

Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there near the water. V27

In Elim they had endless supply of water. Also there were 70 date palms and they rested there. Now from a place of bitterness they reached to a place of blessing.

The Israelites hopes were shattered in Marah. They came with expectation but they were disappointed and got discouraged and bitter as the water there was undrinkable.

The Israel people were just like us. When our expectations are not fulfilled we chose to complain or murmur.

Dear Friends,

When you are tempted to complain, choose to pray instead.

Complaining or murmuring about your problem will only intensify the problem. You can overcome any challenging situation by crying out to God.

He knows your sickness. He knows your grief. He knows your struggles. He knows your challenges.

He knows what you need before you need it. He is aware of everything and totally in control.

God had a tree already in place to meet the need of the Israel people. Similarly He has everything in store for you.

He will make the bitter waters of life sweet again. He will bring you to Elim a place of rest and blessing.

God Bless You.
