The God who is bigger than our storms
Scripture Text Matthew 8 :23 -26 Then He got into the boat and His disciples followed Him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown! “He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm!”
As Jesus and His disciples were travelling in the sea suddenly a violent storm arose on the sea and the waves came over the sides of the ship and it began to sink. The disciples were in great danger and with no way to escape.
But Christ was sleeping soundly in the Ship. The disciples woke Jesus with their loud cries and repeated calls for help. They said to him, “Master, master! Save us, we are going to die!”
“And he saith unto them, where is your faith”? They had some faith, but not enough. “Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.”
Jesus rebuked them for being so afraid, because He was in the same boat with them.
Jesus is teaching a valuable lesson to His disciples and to us. We should not panic no matter how bad the situation may be.
Jesus is with us in our boat. If He is your Lord, He will not let you perish.
When God allow storms in our life how are we going to handle them?
Are we going to panic and despair, like the disciples and reveal our lack of faith and trust in Jesus?
Are we going to stay strong in our faith?
Can we boldly say the presence of Jesus in my life will help me overcome the storm?
We see the same incident mentioned in Luke 8:22 and here we see Jesus tells the disciples, “Lets cross over to the other side of the lake.” Jesus has already told them we are going to reach the other side of the lake. But when the storm arose, they forgot His promise and began to panic.
When you face fiery storms in your life remember
- Storms are under His control.
- Storms are always of limited duration.
- We have a big God who moves in a Big way.
- He will take you to the destiny He has promised.
Therefore, refuse to be moved when the storms rage and water pours into the boat. Stand upon the faith you have, believe in the truth and rest in the knowledge that God is the one who said it and will therefore bring it about.
We see in 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
Today as you read this God will do a mighty miracle and calm the storms in your life and give you the peace you seek.
